To improve the quality of life for Indian people in the BIMRU poverty belt through the active community involvement of South Asian people in the UK.
- 85% of the poorest in India live in the four states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh (BIMARU), also known as the poverty belt . Despite the creation of new states such as Jharkhand and Chattisgarh, the acronym BIMARU is still seen to be an appropriate level to describe the disproportionately high levels of poverty and social exclusion that exist throughout this belt. "Bimar" also means sick or poorly.
- The South Asian community refers to people whose ancestral origins lie in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan including Asians from Africa and Caribbean.
