A.I.D banking on it rich experience in STD/HIV/AIDS prevention in Tamil Nadu initiated a study meant to promote safe sex practices among the truck drivers, sex workers and their contact sources on the Mumbai-Calcutta  National Highway (NH33). Three key  places   Sunakun, Kokpara and Baharagora were identified as  the hub of unsafe sex practices. Around 32 volunteers were trained under this project, contacted, 3947 lorry drivers, 3951 cleaners, 135 sex workers, 77 petrol bunk workers, 185 petty shops, 11 doctors, 15 RMPS, 23 medical store personnel, 84 vulcanizing shops and 1436 youth; studying their behaviourial pattern and spreading awareness about the dangers of STD/HIV/AIDS. 

 

 

A.I.D also initiated micro studies in the tribal areas of east and west Singhbhum district, related to reproductive health, family planning practices in tribal areas and current status of STD/HIV/AIDS. These studies have painted a bleak picture in relation to awareness level within the available infrastructure.
