The
National Consultation for practicing and potential Community Radio
Operators in India took place in New Delhi on 6- 7th March at
Institute of Mass communication (IIMC). This was organized by
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting – Govt of India in
collaboration with United Nations. I&B Ministry Secretary Mr. S.K.
Arora inaugurated the two day event.
The consultations aimed, among other things, to raise awareness
about the processes involved in community radio (CR) licensing in
India. The event also showcased different community radio
models/experiences in South Asia. The video film Voice to the
Voiceless showcasing the successful initiatives of community radio
being undertaken by Alternative for India Development covering
seven different dialects with peoples participation in Jharkhand
was shown for public viewing in the
national meet.
The meeting also highlighted crucial aspects of programming,
operation and management and sustainability of community radio
stations (CRS).
The two-day Workshop had different sessions related to the
operational, organizational, programme and technical aspects
concerning the community radio in India with a view to facilitate
the existing as well as prospective community radio operators in
the country.
AID also shared its organizational work on community radio in
different regions and languages in Jharkhand.
As a follow up of the National consultative it was decided to hold
regional consultative meetings to usher in more NGO’s to take this
initiative forward. AID has taken the lead to hold the regional
consultative covering the states of Jharkhand, Orissa and Bihar.
The regional consultative is likely to be held in June-July of
this year. |
