Land mutation and
registration were completed for record number of cases without any
privileges being paid to the departments.
-
People understood the
need and the process of filing first information reports (FIR).
-
The program enabled
government officials to participate in programmes to a greater
extent.
-
Opportunity
provided for the right to expression and the right to information
from local authorities.
-
Rampant
corruption was highlighted; this has been the cross cutting issue
in all of the programmes on development.
-
The program emboldened the
community to express their opinions and give practical insights
into corruption and how it has affected their lives.
-
The program effectively
portrayed the various social evils in the region, its causes and
attributing factors and what needs to be done.
-
The confidence of
women has been rebuilt. It has changed their lives. They are
actively participating through play, songs and interviews.
-
The popularity of
the programme has forced government officials to listen to the
programme as it contains grievances in community and presents the
real situation of the area.
-
The program
attempts to make every individual who is a victim of the system to
directly participate to express their right and concern for
change.
-
At first, women
were reluctant to participate in the program due to the inherent
system of purdah culture in the region. This culture emerged due
to feudalism and even dalit and tribal women came under this
anchorage. There are several instances of feudal landlords
subjugating dalit women to physical and sexual assaults. With the
introduction of the community radio programme their confidence has
been rebuilt. It has changed their lives by making women
as information careers. They are now voicing their issues through the
program, play, songs and interviews. Gone are the days
when a male character would imitate a woman. Today women with
their babies in their lap come forward to act in episodes.
-
The program has
provoked them to take collective action against people responsible
for violence against women, widen their role in panchayat and
block level committees and enhance their skills in art and music.
For the first time in the history of this region there are signs
of women’s power making inroads into village life and bringing
about change. It can be said that one more male bastion in Palamau
is falling.
-
A positive
outfall of the program is that now the community is emboldened to
speak against middlemen and contractors in radios. They have
mustered the courage to express their grievances and block
district authorities. They have also started analyzing and airing
their views about the lack of development in the region and the
prevalence of corruption.
-
In a very short
time the program has commanded popularity. Its impact had been
significant and many of letters have been received from listeners
in the bordering states of Bihar, UP and Chattisgarh. Emotional
appeals and appreciation in the form of letters have also been
received in large numbers. Their suggestions are taken into
account and incorporated in future programs. This has led to the
formation of listeners clubs in more than 100 villages, which is
unheard of in this region.
