To conduct the
training and lesson learning through sharing of the experience
and the techniques in production of the radio programmes
Three days workshop on Community radio initiatives of
Alternative
for India Development, Jharkhand was organized at Ranchi office from
10th April to 13th April 2007, focusing on its experience sharing and
learning in community radio programming. The community radio reporters
of different programs initiated by AID in Jharkhand participated in
the training workshop. The workshop was aimed at understanding the
various practical aspects and techniques of best practices of
community radio programme. The experiences and practices of programmes
like ‘Chala Ho Gaon Mein’ of Palamau, Garhwa and Latehar,
‘Amarder Awaz’ of Ghatshila, ‘Abua Hature Abua Raj’ of
Kolhan region, ‘Abua Disum Abua Raj’ of Khunti and Arki region
and ‘Awaz Aapki Prayas Hamara ‘of Ranchi urban were drawn with
sharing of experiences and achievements in raising the grass roots
issues and community participation as a part of the community radio
initiatives.
The radio reporters from all the community radio projects of AID in
Jharkhand actively participated in this lesson learning workshop
where they presented various modules and techniques related to
identification of issues concerning their region, preparation of
script, recording, broadcasting and narrowcasting in the field.
The best episodes selected by the radio teams were presented during
the first two days of the workshop. The group discussions that
followed, evaluated the episode production of each project team on the
basis of the quality, script contents and the impact it created in the
region.
On the last day of the workshop, an exclusive session on field
recording was arranged as lesson learning for all the reporters,
inorder to build up their capacity to learn the recording techniques
and enhance the quality of the radio episodes. The reporters were
divided into five groups and they selected different locations in
Ranchi city and its outskirts to prepare the participatory message for
radio episode production. The places like slums at different pockets
of the city and the outskirt-where the fears of displacement from the
land due to expansion of the airport and the lack of civic amities,
were covered by the reporters to prepare the radio episodes.
AID
Kolhan chapter and the Ho community radio Abua Hature Abua Raj
jointly organised a rally on World TB Day at Chaibasa, West Singhbhum
on 24th March 2007. The rally, attended by villagers of Tantnagar and
Rajnagar blocks and school children, covered the main road in Chaibasa
town and culminated at the Pillai Hall where the TB officer of Sadar
Hospital, Chaibasa, Mr. M. Mahto, the MLA of Majhagawa, and Mr. Niral
Purti addressed the participants. The question and answers session
followed thereafter. A small drama on TB by the community radio
Listener’s club of Cinni village was also performed at this occasion.
The winners in the song and drama competition were awarded by the
chief guest, Mr. Niral Purti during this function.
Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Mahto informed about the government run
DOTS programme and the value and the need of the nutritious food for
the TB patients.
The
workshop and the inauguration of the Vikalp training center
Vikalp
Traning Centre of Alternative for India development (AID) which is
established to provide training to the talents identified from the villages
from various project regions of AID, was inaugurated by Dr. Dhuni Soren (
trustee of AID- UK ) on 10th march 2007.
A book
“Tribal Governance in Jharkhand” was also released on this occasion
by the guests.
A
workshop on “Adivasi, Jungle aur Swamitava” with special
reference to the recently passed ST and other forest dwellers (right over
forest) Act 2006 was organized by AID at its office premises today.
The chief
guest of the workshop was Dr. Ram Dayal Munda (ex- vice chancellor Ranchi
University). Other participants were Prof. (Mrs.) Malanch Ghosh (Women’s
college), Sujeet Ranjan (CARE), Meghnath ji (documentary film maker), Mrs.
Bhushan Pathak (PUCL secretary), Johan Munda (Bho Raksha Samitti, Murhu) and
Suman Nag (Khuntkatti Raksha Manch, Arki) who actively participated in the
workshop. The
Chief Guest Dr. Ram Dayal Munda highlighted on the Forest Act and stressed
on the need to give voice to this Act by local tribal presence in the state
committee in which he is the member to execute the Act in the state.
Prof.
Malanch Ghosh stressed the need for community leadership and its
recognition. Mr. Meghnath pointed out the failure of the Joint Forest
Management and gave importance to the community based approach for
management of the forest. Mr. Pathak gave importance to the development of
the community with respect to the development by the government. Mr Balram
working on the food security, linked up the matter with forest and
livelihood Mr. Dhamu Munda from Khunti, Mr. Suman Nag from Arki and Johan
Munda representing Bho Raksha Samiti, Murhu highlighted the interference of
the forest department in Khuntkatti region and informed how this department
has taken over the forest in disguise of the forest Acts.
The
participants of the work shop concluded the programme by deciding that they
will try their best to safeguard the tribals rights on jungle and will move
ahead in making the Forest Act 2006 applicable and, whenever necessary, they
will demand for the changes by considering the welfare of the tribals.
Inauguration of the studio, mobile van and quarterly newsletter
The Chief
Guest, Mr. Mukhtiar Singh, IAS, Principal Secretary, Finance, Jharkhand, and
the Guest of Honour, Mr. K K Soan, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ranchi,
inaugurated the recording studio and media center VIKALP on 26th February
2007 in AID office at Ranchi, Jharkhand. On this occasion, a community radio
audio-video mobile van was also inaugurated by the guests. They were
presented with the welcome dance by the Arki/Khunti field staff comprising
seven women and 8 men cultural team.
Other dignitaries present were- Mrs. Rosmine Lakra ( ex AIR Director,
Ranchi), CARE representative, Durga Prasad, Ex technical Head, AIR, Sri
Jawaharji, Ex Programme Head, AIR, Nayyar Rizvi, Director, Field and
Publicity Directorate, Ministry of Information and broadcasting.
The students from St. Xavier’s College and Department of Journalism,
Ranchi University were awarded certificates for the best script writing,
selected on the basis of the competition that took place recently in Ranchi
College and St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi by the Urban Community Radio
‘Awaaz Apki Prayas Hamara’.
The guests also inaugurated the live recording of the first song in the
studio prepared and performed by the cultural team of Chalo Ho Gaon Mein
from Garhwa. The theme of the song was based on the NREGA and the child
labour.
Workshop on “Role of Media, NGO and Radio in Community Development”
The
chairperson of the workshop was Rosmine Lakra, ex station director of
AIR, Ranchi. Other participants were Durga Prasad, AIR, Jawaharji-
AIR, Nayyar Rizvi- Director, Directorate of Field publicity, Divya-women
Helpline, Dept. of Social welfare, Women and Child Development Dept,
Government of Jharkhand, Salman Raavi- BBC Jharkhand and the staff of
AID.
AID
members from different project areas in Jharkhand participated in the
workshop by asking query and getting answers from the guest
participants.
