Why is AID interested?
Tribal groups in India are one of the most excluded, disempowered
and disadvantaged parts of society. The areas they live are
invariably underdeveloped, underserved and “internal colonies” of
the poor. They are one of the hidden poor groups with little
education and skills. Their culture is ignored, their language is
extinct, the system of community self-help, mutual help, community
self-governance and community life is least recognised by the
government and the existing policies. Common values cherished by the
tribes for years are slowly fading. For many urbanites and
outsiders, their culture is considered as “primitive”, “primordial”
“uncultured” and “strange”.
In view of this scenario, AID has always been committed to their
rights and their sustainable development. AID is interested in
pursuing their cause, as it is consistent with the vision and
mission of AID, as well as the area strategic plan. Hence, AID
partnered with the tribes. AID aims to promote the mission of
livelihood security. The area was chosen in view of its high poverty
and weak governance. |
