Lac cultivation is
practiced in Arki project area since ages. The host trees like Ber,
Kusum and Palas are found in abundance. However the means of cultivation
is very traditional. Moreover, trees are decreasing in numbers due to
deforestation. With initiatives taken by AID, trainings are provided to
the target groups
with the help of Indian Lac Training Institute (ILRI), Namkum (www.icar.org.in). The strategy is to renew forest through skill training.
The purpose is to create forest-based employment to the poor families
through maximum use of the forest produces. All these would increase the level of employment to the local people with
increased forest cover. |
