Strengthening Of Munda
Panchayat |
<<Back |

The village head, called Munda,
is not literate in many villages. They are least aware about the
various government programmes and schemes. Sincere efforts have been
made by AID to look into these weaknesses. The field staff maintains
a regular visit during the Gram Sabha (GS) meetings. Proper record
and register maintenance are taking place. The members of GS have
been taught about bookkeeping. As a result many Gram Sabhas have
started maintaining their own record of GS meetings. Some of them
have learned enough to read and write names. |

Mission |

There were two non-functional GS tolas of Sonepur
village. They have been brought together with sincere effort of AID.
The two erring GSs were united on the issue of protecting their
community forest. They are building up their capacity to seek out
their problems themselves. Further, they have put a check on
deforestation .It has helped in increasing the village’s natural
base. This was one of the goals of this project. Awakening of Gram
Sabha with respect to forest preservation has taken place. The
activities taken up are in right direction. They need more
motivation. Once the positive results of activities are adopted by
some members, it will be easier to achieve the goals. |
