This programme is to help the children who are unable to continue their education after the Tsunami due to the destruction of their houses, loss of their parents and the like. AID has come out with education-related programmes with a special focus on the school drop-outs, regular school going children and final year students of both High schools and Higher Secondary schools.

The campaign for making Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan – a programme for all children as permanent one, starting of education centres, repairing / reconstruction of government school building are planned. Children from the age of 5 years to 15 years are covered and about 1000 children are expected to be benefited under the educational programmes. The programme details are as follows:

Supplementary education

This programme is envisaged for the all-round development of the children in the affected area. Apart from their regular school studies, children undergo additional training for their physical and mental fitness.

About 1000 students were chosen from 14 centres from both project areas. There are 8 such centres in Nagapattinam area and 6 in Parangipettai area.

The lessons taught in the schools covering all regular subjects would be taught to the students. In addition, extra-curricular and co-curricular activities like culturals, sports, drawing and Indoor games are also taught to the students.

Special Coaching Classes

Children from the affected areas especially the final year school students attend special coaching classes to enhance their understanding of various subjects to secure good marks at the board level.

Accordingly, about 100 students are selected from the final years of both from high schools and higher secondary schools. Special coaching classes are being conducted to these students on regular basis and all their queries related to tough portions were solved. This is to ensure that these children attend their final exams confidently.
