After the
groundwork done in the initial two to three months, AID had
entered into the re-life programmes. AID encourages the fisherfolk
not to leave their businesses abandoning their present locations
by scripting various Slogans and printed the same on posters and
handbills which brought about a lot of confidence to the fishing
community.

AID has recently
published a book on Tsunami titled “AID Tsunami Information Guide”
both in English and in Tamil that contains information on various
Government Orders (GO) relating to relief and rehabilitation for
the benefits of the Tsunami affected people

A local NGO
Network has been set up recently through which a lot of
information is being shared among various NGOs. AID is also a part
of this network. The information sharing helps AID to avoid
redundancy and to serve the people better in an effective way.

AID since
identified the beneficiaries for its Micro-credit programme to
help the affected people find their own employment through small
business. Through this programme the beneficiaries are linked to
various banks to get loans to start their own businesses.
8On 27th April, a Kabhadi tournament was organized at Silladi (Nagapattinam)
followed by a Cycle Rally to encourage youth. The rally had
started at Silladi temporary shelter and ended at Nagapattinam
main bus stand covering a distance of 4 kilometers.
8Training on Disaster Management, Vocational skill training
programme, etc. are given to the affected people. These types of
programmes ensure that the beneficiaries are fully equipped with
future contingencies and disasters.

Community-based
Adoption Programme is to provide normal life environment to 100
orphaned children and single-parent children in both project
areas. Relatives of these children are encouraged to bring them up
in their respective communities. The Children grow in their
relatives’ house and the relatives would be given counseling. The
SHGs will monitor the children from time to time and periodical
medical check up is arranged to ensure sound physical conditions
of these children.
