Activities

The course duration is generally between 6 and 12 months and in special cases can be extended  by further 12 months. Also short term courses of 7 days to 2 months are offered.  Again this year it has added more vocational courses to the college syllabus.

The college operates the more intensive courses on campus and also extension units for courses that can run and be managed in the villages.

The college syllabus offers an extensive range of subjects and other vocational courses in :

  • Engineering

  • Electronics

  • Computing

  • Plumbing

  • Tailoring etc

  • Fitter engineers (new course)

  • Printing

  • Book keeping

  • Various other courses

  • Electrical engineering

  • Mechanical engineering

  • National Open School Stream of vocational training

  • Skill training to self-help groups, training to para-medical teachers and community workers.

During the year the college approached N I O S for accreditation in respect of the fitter engineering course which they are currently considering.

The number of persons enrolled in different streams of education  this year is given below.

  • 54 persons in welding 

  • 59 in electrical wiring 

  • 60 in automobile training 

  • 31 in tailoring and embroidery 

  • 17 in carpentry 

  • 15 Fitters

Through the village extension centres a total of 55 students received education in :

  • Cycle repairing

  • Diesel motor repairing

  • Tailoring

The College is also facilitating their careers through apprenticeships, work placements and financial support through the Revolving Loan Fund (R L F).  The fund is administered by a committee and the purpose of the fund is to assist deserving candidates complete trade training.

During the year :

  • 39 were given apprenticeships.

  • 42 got employment.

  • 9 poor people were given support to set up their own businesses.

 

42 children from rural village and carpet working backgrounds were enrolled with N I O S.  This will give them a new opportunity of escaping from their plight and open up possibilities of self employment or employment within or outside the districts.

The College also provided in-house training for the following groups and numbers of people :

  • 64 day teachers

  • 22 supplementary teachers

  • 42 non-formal and pre-school teachers

  • 22 health workers

  • 122 village volunteers obtaining skills for working with villagers

Building work is now underway to expand the College by 5,000 square feet.  This will facilitate further training for the areas of Palamau and the whole of Jharkhand.
