Objective Of Workshop

The objective of the rally was to highlight the mica problems at the district level through rally and media and to create awareness as well as a pressure group for the local administration, forest department and the mining department.
The rally was to reorganise mica labour and urge the government to lease out the land for the mining purpose. The need was to create a network and joint platform with the like minded organisations to solve the mica labour problems with the help of the local administration and the line departments.

The Impact

Preceding the rally, a village level meeting with AYSV and the local community leaders took place to organise the event. Wall writing and dissemination of leaflets and pamphlets also took place in the region. The people were motivated through the rally as this was the first ever visit for most of the mica workers at the district town of Giridih. They collectively submitted the memorandum to the DDC of the district and also raised their concern with their local leader and the MP, Mr. Babulal Marandi at the latter’s village at Kodobag and handed over the written appeal to solve their problems.

This rally was also an eye opener for most of the local resident of the district town. Wide press coverage was given to this event in the newspapers and the local TV channels where the mica child labourers narrated their problems and the exploitation at the hand of the local police and the forest department.
The DDC was explained of the problem in the mica regions of Tisri and Gawan Blocks. He has assured to look into the problems and also to facilitate the process of effective implementation of government schemes and proper coordination with administration and the local people.
