Dear
Friends,
Subject: Appeal for support to Tsunami hit
families of Tamilnadu, India
We are writing this appeal in this New Year 05 on
behalf of Alternative for India Development (AID), a British Charity
and its counterpart in India. Both organisations have been engaged in
development works in the State of Tamilnadu and other parts of India
for two decades. In this tragedy, some families swept away by the
killer waves are related to the staff of its counterpart in India in
general and it’s Director in particular.
This is both a personal and organisational appeal to request you to
lend your helping hand to the tsunami hit families and communities in
Tamilnadu, India. The black Sunday’s seismic waves swallowed more than
123000 precious lives in South East and South Asia. In India,
Tamilnadu State alone, 1076 KMs of coastline with a population of one
million was terribly affected by the tsunami killer waves. Till date,
more than 7200 people lost their lives and about 5000 persons are
missing in Tamilnadu.
The
human loss and cost of the devastation can not be easily counted nor
compensated. The survivors and their families are numb with grief,
sunk in shock and sucked in mental trauma. Many children, who were
orphaned by the tsunami, need immediate and long term support and
succour to come out of the shock, desperation and devastation. The
calamity also ruined the local livelihoods. They lost their home,
household utensils, fishing nets, boats and all their possessions.
Nothing is left for them. Many deserted their village out of fear
psychosis. For no fault on them, the nature was too harsh and cruel
on them. As a human being/ humanitarian organisation, we all have to
do the possible bid to make some difference on the life of those who
lost their lives and livelihood.
AID, an organisation with strong presence in Tamilnadu, we would like
to do both short term and long term help in the form of relief and
development works to the survivor families and their communities. We
look forward to your immediate response to engage ourselves in swift
action. In the mean time, we are intending to take up follow up works
to rebuild their life and livelihood. The details are given below.
Look forward to your earlier response and support.
Yours Sincerely,
|
