The calamity has caused unprecedented devastation in the coastal districts. The destruction was severe. Huts and pucca houses have been flattened, fishing boats have been smashed, buses and big tankers have been strewn around. Infrastructure facilities have also suffered extensive damage. The families living along the coastline have lost all their possessions.

Undertaking the relief works and make the people involve in rehabilitation can be done effectively by making them aware of all information pertaining to community reconstruction. The AID Information Centres are presently complementing the relief and rehabilitation provided by the state and other sectors to the affected community. The AID Information Centres work as knowledge provider in these two districts by continuing with our rehabilitation work, by addressing the specific needs of the affected communities focusing mainly on women and children.
