Relief and Rehabilitation work under progress for the   Tsunami Victims in Cuddalore District

1. Health
Government Hospitals
  • No of OP Cases treated - 4558 
  • No. of IP Cases admitted - 437 
  • Amount of medical relief disbursed- Rs. 60,000/- 
  • Counseling camps for all the traumatized victims 
  • Training in counseling by voluntary agencies to the grass root volunteers and SHGs 
The Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine undertook the following:
  • 20 Government medical teams for conducting camps in the affected areas
  • 59,378 people received medical attention
  • No of Vaccination made - 15,000 doses (measles)
  • Medicines worth Rs 7,00,000 distributed
  • 18 ambulances deployed in the affected areas
2. Animal Husbandry
  • No of Animals affected        -     2001
  • No of Cattle affected           -     1068 
  • No of animal Vaccinated      -     20109
  • Amount of fodder mobilized -     25000 Kgs

3. Hygiene
Sanitation and hygiene is yet another important aspect of relief operations. No effort was spared by the District Administration to ensure this. Towards this attempt bleaching powder was used extensively in all the affected areas to prevent the spread of disease.

4. Mass Cleaning
The clearing of debris is an important prerequisite to rehabilitating the affected populace. The army was also called to assist the administration in the cleaning up operations. This process has been completed in a number of villages.

5. Community Kitchens
  • No of Kitchens functioning - 24
  • Total No of persons fed - 13,000 persons every day

7. Water Supply arrangement
Water supply has been restored in all the areas affected by the tsunami. 500 Sintex tanks were sent to the relief centres as well as to the villages for providing safe drinking water. 5 Aquaguard water purifiers were put up on sponsorship places in the Government hospitals at Cuddalore, Parangipettai and Government Higher Secondary School, Cuddalore. In addition to this regular chlorination is undertaken in all the village habitations.

7. Orphanage 
                     Total orphans identified - 22
                     These children are taken care of in the Government Orphanages.
8. Schools
  • Total No of students identified - 6877
  • No of Note Books distributed - 6877
  • No of Uniforms distributed - 6824
9. Temporary Huts
               No of Temporary to be constructed      -    2125

10. Repairs of Boats
Special care has been taken to ensure that the fishermen get back to their vocation at the earliest possible date. The army engineers assisted many a fisherman in repairing the boats. 3 teams of engineers from the Ashok Leyland group is to undertake engine repairs
